Ultrasonic Cleaning

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Tooth cleaning isn't just about having a beautiful smile. It's the primary means of preventing and treating periodontal (gum) disease. Our teeth need special cleaning so as to remove the deposits of plaque and stains that build up on tooth surfaces.

Tooth cleaning is usually performed by the non-surgical technique of scaling, also called root debridement. This is a painless procedure in which small dental instruments are used to physically remove deposits from teeth' surfaces. Earlier, scaling was performed with manual tools alone, but with the advent of the ultrasonic scaler, things have changed.

What is an ultrasonic scaler?

An ultrasonic scaler is an intuitively designed electrical device that helps eliminate plaque, calculus, and other types of debris from the tooth surface with high-frequency vibrations.

How does a Dental scaler work?

When the ultra-sonic scaling machine is connected to electricity, the handpiece attached to the unit through the cord gets activated and transforms the electrical energy to mechanical energy-producing high-frequency vibration in the tip or file.

Advantages of Ultrasonic Dental Scalers:

  • Comfortable for patients.
  • Increased efficiency.
  • Very effective to remove stain & calculus.
  • Less need for water to control the heat

Applications:

In dentistry, ultrasonic dental scalers can be used for the following:

  • For the removal of stains
  • To remove supra-gingival and sub-gingival calculus
  • To remove the debris prior to oral surgery
  • For orthodontic de-bonding
  • For the removal of debris from periodontal pocket
  • To remove debris from furcation areas.
